About the Manju Jois Ashtanga Yoga Mysore, Pranayama & Chanting Intensive

Join Manju Jois for 5 days of practice, study and deep conversation into the traditional aspects of Ashtanga yoga. Each day Manju will:

  • teach the Mysore style of Ashtanga yoga where you will receive personal guidance and instruction from Manju (assisted by Scott Johnson and Jock Orton)
  • Practice traditional pranayama, that Manju learnt from his father, Pattabhi Jois.
  • Chant traditional Sanskrit peace mantras that help to cleanse the mind.
  • Tell stories from his 70 years of practice and teaching experience and answer questions.

What you will gain from the intensive?

You will practice and  learn traditional hatha yoga and vedic techniques from one of the worlds oldest, and longest, teachers of Ashtanga yoga.

Anyone who has a current practice of Ashtanga yoga and would like to deepen it under the guidance of a highly skilled and experienced teacher.

Your Teacher

Manju Jois is the oldest son of Pattabhi Jois, the founder of Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga. Manju Jois began his own personal yoga practice at the age of 7 with his father as his teacher and began teaching at the age of 15. He has taught continuously throughout the world for over 60 years.

Manju is dedicated to his mission of teaching the ancient tradition of Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga, for a total mind-body-spirit unification with Self. Manju and his father brought Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga to America in 1975 and Manju has traveled worldwide teaching this tradition. Pattabhi Jois was taught yoga by the legendary teacher T. Krishnamacharya, who also taught B. K. S. Iyengar, Indra Devi, T. K. V. Desikachar and A. G. Mohan who all have carried on these teachings worldwide.

He incorporates pranayama and vedic chantings in his classes, which go very well with Ashtanga yoga practice. Manju’s intention is to teach in the way of the ancient tradition and bring the many benefits of Ashtanga yoga to his students.

He hopes to bring “better concentration and understanding” of Ashtanga Yoga to his students in a world full of distractions. Manju’s dedication is to guide each to “Unite with Yourself.”
